SAMSUNG MS23K3513AK/SP, 23L

Tenant Usage + Upkeep Guide

1️⃣ Daily Usage – What Tenants MUST Follow

Use Only Microwave-Safe Containers

This Samsung solo microwave is for heating food and drinks only.

Use only:

• Microwave-safe glass or ceramic (no metal trim)

• Microwave-safe plastic containers / covers

• Microwave-safe cling film (not touching the food directly if oily)

Strictly NO:

• Metal plates, foil, stainless-steel flasks, metal-rimmed bowls

• Disposable foil trays

• Metal skewers / cutlery

• Recycled paper, newspaper, metallic-printed paper bags (can spark)

If in doubt – don’t put it in. Transfer food to a known microwave-safe bowl.

Always Use the Turntable & Roller Ring

This model must always run with:

• Roller ring in place

• Glass turntable correctly seated on the centre coupler

Never use the microwave:

• Without the glass tray

• When the tray is jammed or cannot rotate

If the turntable is not moving freely → stop, check for misalignment or food spills under it.

Basic Reheat – Safe Everyday Operation

For simple reheating:

1. Place food in the centre of the glass turntable.

2. Cover with a microwave-safe lid / cover to avoid splatter.

3. Close the door fully.

4. Use the standard Microwave or +30s START function to heat in short bursts.

5. Stir halfway if liquid / saucy food.

Rules:

• Never run the microwave empty – always with food or a cup of water.

• Always check food temperature before eating.

Use Auto Cook / Quick Defrost Properly (If You Choose to Use Them)

This model comes with:

Auto Cook – pre-set cooking programmes

Quick Defrost – weight-based defrost programmes

If tenants use these:

• Always select the correct food type and weight

• Use microwave-safe dishes only

• Turn / stir food when the oven beeps for turning over

If unsure – just use simple Microwave + time instead of complicated auto menus.

Keep Vents Clear & Give It Breathing Space

The microwave needs ventilation around the back and sides.

Do NOT:

• Push it tightly against the wall

• Stack items on top that block vents

• Wrap it with cloth / covers

Poor ventilation = overheating + automatic shutdown during use.

2️⃣ Weekly Care – The Minimum Tenant Requirements

Wipe Interior & Door Seals

At least once a week (more if used daily):

• Unplug the microwave (or ensure it’s off)

• Wipe the inside walls, ceiling and floor with a soft damp cloth + mild detergent

• Wipe the door glass and rubber door seal carefully – food stuck here stops the door closing well

NO:

• Abrasive pads, steel wool

• Oven cleaners, benzene, thinner, or high-pressure cleaners

Clean Turntable & Roller Ring

Weekly:

• Remove glass turntable + roller ring

• Wash them gently in warm soapy water

• Dry fully before putting back

• Check the turntable can rotate smoothly with no grinding or scraping

Deodorise If There Are Smells

If there is food smell inside:

• Place a microwave-safe bowl of water with lemon slices or baking soda

• Heat for a few minutes, then leave door closed for a short while

• Wipe condensation from walls after it cools

This reduces long-term odour build-up.

3️⃣ What Tenants MUST NOT Do (Critical to Protect Your Appliance)

Do NOT Heat Sealed Containers or Eggs in Shell

Never place:

• Sealed bottles / jars

• Airtight plastic containers

• Canned food still in the can

• Eggs in shells or whole hard-boiled eggs

These can explode even after heating stops and damage the oven or injure you.

Do NOT Use for Clothes, Sponges, Paper or Other Non-Food Items

This oven is for food and drink only.

Not allowed:

• Drying clothes, towels, sponges or shoes

• Heating heat-packs or grain-filled cushions

• Drying paper towels, tissues or wipes

These can burn, smoke or catch fire.

Do NOT Run When Empty or Overcook Liquids

Running empty or with very small load on high power can:

• Overheat internal parts

• Damage the magnetron

Superheated liquids (e.g. water, soup) can erupt when disturbed after heating.

Always:

• Put actual food or a cup of water inside before starting

• Let hot liquids stand a short while and stir carefully before drinking

Do NOT Block Vents or Place Heavy Items on Top

Do not:

• Cover top / sides with boxes, trays, chopping boards

• Stack heavy items on top of the microwave

Poor ventilation leads to:

• Exterior becoming too hot

• Oven shutting off mid-cooking

Do NOT Slam or Force the Door

If food or residue is stuck between door and frame:

• Do NOT force the door closed

• Clean the area, then close gently

Forcing the latch can misalign the safety interlocks.

4️⃣ Troubleshooting Guide (What Tenant Should Try FIRST)

1. Oven Does Not Start / No Heating

Check:

• Is the plug firmly in and switched on at the wall? • Is the door fully closed until it clicks?

• Did you actually set time + press START/+30s?

• Is Child Lock on (display shows “L”)? Hold the Child Lock button ~3 seconds to unlock.

If still not working → stop using and inform landlord.

2. Oven Stops Mid-Cooking

Possible reasons:

• Very long cooking time – unit needs to cool

• Vents blocked / things placed on top

• Trying to run without proper food load inside

Tenant’s steps:

• Open door, let it cool for 10–15 minutes

• Move anything blocking the vents

• Next time, avoid extremely long runs on high power

If it keeps cutting off → notify landlord.

3. Buttons Don’t Respond / Strange Display

Check:

• Is Child Lock active? (Display “L”) – hold Child Lock button to clear.

• Is the panel wet / oily? Wipe gently with dry soft cloth.

If still frozen or erratic, unplug for 1–2 minutes, plug in again.

If problem returns → contact landlord.

4. Sparks, Burning Smell, Smoke or Loud Popping

This is serious. Could be:

• Metal / foil inside

• Sealed containers / eggs

• Very dirty interior (food splatter burning)

Tenant must:

• Press STOP/ECO or open the door immediately

• If safe, unplug from wall

• Do NOT use again

• Inform landlord with short description + photo of inside
