CARE GUIDE-APPLIANCES 05-HOOD

MAYER MMSI903OT – Semi-Integrated Cooker Hood

Tenant Usage + Upkeep Guide

1️⃣ Daily Usage – What Tenants MUST Follow

1. Turn on the hood BEFORE cooking

Always switch to Level 2 or 3 before food hits the pan.

Why:

Stronger airflow

Reduces oil/smoke spread

Keeps cabinets clean

2. Use the hood for ALL oily, smoky, or high-heat cooking

Examples:

Stir-fry

Pan-fry

Deep fry (shallow)

Grilling / searing

Boiling strong-smelling food

This prevents grease from settling on walls, ceiling, and cabinets.

3. Keep the hood body and intake vents CLEAR

No hanging:

Towels

Plastic bags

Cloths

Utensils

Blocked vents force the motor to work harder → overheat → shutdown.

4. Use proper cookware height & alignment

For optimal extraction:

Ensure pot is centered under hood

Use appropriate flame/heat height

Avoid extremely tall pots touching the hood

5. Wipe down underside after cooking

Steam + oil forms sticky residue that becomes very hard to clean.

Use:

Warm soapy cloth

Microfiber

No abrasives

2️⃣ Weekly Care – Tenant Responsibilities

1. Clean the aluminium grease filters

Remove filter → wash with:

Warm water

Dish soap

Soft sponge

Dry completely before reinstalling.

2. Empty and clean the oil collection tray

MMSI903OT comes with an oil tray.
Tenant MUST empty it weekly (or more often if cooking heavily).

Oil build-up causes:

Smell

Dripping

Attracts pests

3. Wipe exterior hood body

Prevents oil film, which can:

Damage paint

Attract insects

Cause yellowing

3️⃣ What Tenants MUST NOT Do (Critical)

1. Do NOT leave filters dirty for weeks

Leads to:

Poor suction

Smoke in unit

Motor overheating

Fire risk

2. Do NOT spray water into the hood or motor area

This causes:

Short circuits

Rust

Motor failure

Electrical hazard

3. Do NOT hang or store items on the hood

Common tenant mistake that causes:

Hood misalignment

Loose screws

Cabinet damage

4. Do NOT block the ventilation outlets

Blocking airflow causes:

Auto shutdown

Motor overheating

Long-term damage

5. Do NOT use abrasive scrub pads

This scratches:

Stainless steel

Glass

Bottom hood panel

4️⃣ Troubleshooting Guide

1. Suction feels weak

Check:

Is filter clogged?

Is oil tray full?

Is pot directly under hood?

Tenant action:
➡️ Clean filter + oil tray
➡️ Reposition cookware

2. Hood vibrating or noisy

Causes:

Loose filter not clipped properly

Grease buildup on motor fan

Blocked vents

Tenant action:
➡️ Reinstall filter correctly
➡️ Clean underside

If still noisy → inform landlord.

3. Hood shutting off mid-cooking

Usually overheating from:

Dirty filters

Blocked vents

Long heavy cooking session

Tenant action:
➡️ Turn off
➡️ Let cool 10–15 minutes
➡️ Clean filters

4. Burning smell

Most common cause:
